| The debut full-length by this Australian/Serbian band. Raw Black Metal created in a manner most melancholic and medieval. Smeared and bleary, "Cruelty & Necrospection" is almost too accurately titled: wave after wave of agonized yet alluringly melodic nastiness hits the listener with no remorse and no escape. Solipsism succeed because they inherently understand Black Metal being Black Metal: boundaries are respected, the essence remains forthright and new hymns are conjured from the past. As such, references can be made to the French Black Legions, vampyric pioneers Black Funeral and the paradigmatic Drowning the Light, but on evidence of "Cruelty & Necrospection", Solipsism are poignantly contributing to this proud lineage rather than merely (r)aping it. |
